Lime stone goes through many transformations, starting with drilling and blasting in the quarry, on the way to becoming quicklime or hydrated lime. After crushing and screening the crushed limestone is directed towards kiln where it is calcined at about 1200 °C and transformed into lime.
The plant has four vertical lime kilns, which provide superior thermal performance. Each kiln is equipped with 13 meter high vertical columns each with a diameter of 3.5 meters. The daily production capacity of 100 tones of lime requires a feed of 200 tones of high quality limestone. The vertical kiln is fired with pet coke and has a degree of thermal efficiency unequaled in the industry.
After discharge from the kiln, lime is graded according to various criteria such as reactivity, impurity content, whiteness and size. Then it is stored in watertight silos where it is ready to be supplied.
Throughout the manufacturing process from limestone drill samples in the quarry to finished products like quicklime and hydrated lime in silos and in warehouses, samples are sent to our laboratories for analysis, assuring our customers of high quality products on a regular basis.
